Abstract:
Largely on the basis of previously unavailable data from Soviet censuses, analyzes the dynamics of the Soviet Jewish socioeconomic structure over three decades. The data presented in three tables and six appendices, along with the discussion, enable one to see which trends in employment were affected by discrimination, including in education, and when this occurred, and which trends were affected by other factors. Concludes that, despite the general increase in social status of Jews from the 1960s to the 1980s, they were removed from high positions and more prestigious areas of employment.
