Abstract: In 1985 two antisemites were brought to trial in Canada: James Keegstra, an Alberta high school teacher, and Ernst Zundel from Toronto. Compares the similarities and differences in their views. Keegstra is a Protestant fundamentalist and an antisemitic conservative, influenced by Nesta Webster's writings and the antisemitic literature of the 19th century. He believes in the Jewish world conspiracy and the subversiveness of the Talmud, and denies the Holocaust. Zundel, originally from Germany, is first and foremost a Holocaust denier, who produced and disseminated his own revisionist writings. He is a racist and a worshiper of Nazi Germany, aiming to restore "Germany's honor". Both Keegstra and Zundel are examples of an extreme form of willful self-deception; they represent small groups in the Canadian population predisposed to antisemitism.

Abstract: Surveys the response of the Anglican Church in Canada to Nazism as seen in the Church press, decisions of general and local synods, and public statements by Church leaders. The Anglican Church maintained an active mission to the Jews throughout this period, reflecting the traditional view that the solution to antisemitism was conversion. The Church leadership was alive to the dangers of Nazism and local fascist parties, protesting that their antisemitism was un-British and un-Christian. The General Synod of 1934 condemned German anti-Jewish measures and efforts were made to assist refugees and to alter the government's restrictive immigration policies. Reports of the death camps appeared in the Church press in 1942-43, leading to widespread protests. Concludes that while sympathy for the Jewish plight may not have been universally felt among Anglicans, the picture of a few isolated individual protesters presented in Abella's and Troper's study "None Is Too Many" (1982) is too extreme.

Abstract: The author, who observed Keegstra and his supporters in court during his trial in April 1985 for incitement to hatred of Jews, examines the antisemitic views expressed by him and analyzes their sources. Keegstra, a Christian fundamentalist, views the Jews as agents of the Devil bent on destroying the Christian world, the Talmud as an anti-Christian tract, and socialism, communism and international capitalism as part of a Jewish conspiracy to dominate the world. Discusses the influence on Keegstra of antisemitic writings from the Middle Ages to the present, particularly those of Nesta Webster and the influences on Webster of 18th-19th century European Christian radicals. Relates to Keegstra's prominence in the Social Credit Party of Alberta and the antisemitic strain in the party's ideology since the 1930s. Explains Keegstra's antisemitism as a form of Manichaeism which sees Judaism as the embodiment of evil and Jews as responsible for all the ills of history.
