Abstract: Relates the history of the Bucharest pogrom, carried out by the Iron Guard in the wake of their abortive coup in 1941. Shows that, although extremely brutal, the pogrom had a more limited scope in comparison to the pogrom perpetrated by the Antonescu government in Iasi and the massive destruction of Romanian Jewry carried out later in Bessarabia and Transnistria; the army did not participate. Objects to the attempts to rehabilitate Antonescu in contemporary Romanian historiography.
Note: Appeared in Romanian as "Pogromul de la Bucureşti 21-23 Ianuarie 1941" in "Reflecţii despre Holocaust" (2005) 212-227.
