Abstract:
Argues that the Holocaust is an indisputable historical fact, known to a large number of Germans already at the time of its perpetration, and recorded in innumerable documents, memoirs, and testimonies given at war crimes trials. As long as its memory was fresh, even the radical right did not dare deny it; but since about 1970 this has changed. Neo-Nazis need to deny the Holocaust in order to dissociate themselves from this universally abhorred element of the ideology they wish to propagate. Their publications ignore the documentary sources, or try to represent them as forged. Asserts that although these absurd claims are unlikely to convince most readers, the legislation that now makes Holocaust denial a punishable offense is to be welcomed.
