Abstract:
In the summer of 1942, eighteen Jews from Lille, in the North of France, worked as lumberjacks in the Champaubert-aux-Bois camp, in the Marne. They soon decided not to come back after their leave of absence and joined their families. Some of them were able to find their relatives, others were faced with the reality of their disappearance, after the September 11th 1942 roundup of Jews. This paper studies the records of the camp supervisors who discovered their disappearance and analyses them through other sources which give information on the fate of their families.
