Wisdom in post-biblical literature
Abstract:
The careful analysis of Sir 24, from the point of view of structure and content, has revealed a division into two parts, preceded by a brief introduction (Sir 24:1s), in which Wisdom introduces herself (Sir 24:3-22) and then Ben Sira interprets Wisdom’s speech. The movement of concentration and expansion, spatial and temporal, which characterizes the entire text, allows the presence and concreteness of Wisdom to be grasped, without losing any of its dimension of immensity. Similarly, the role of the Sage gains prominence and allows Wisdom to f low through to the disciples and then to expand again. The text also uses and actualizes many traditional biblical themes and is well placed at the centre of the entire book.
