Abstract:
A paper presented at a symposium held at the University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, April 1991. Examines a series of articles published in 1909-10 by the Romanian poet Alexandru Macedonski demanding civil rights for Romanian Jews and opposing antisemitism. Macedonski consistently refuted the widespread accusation of the Jews being an economic threat, and other anti-Jewish stereotypes which were used to prevent Jewish integration in Romanian society.
