Abstract:
Discusses various types of collections carried out in light of the destruction of Jewish and other books of "un-German spirit", which began with the Nazi book burning campaign conducted by the German Student Union in spring 1933. Focuses on the participation of German libraries and librarians, and states that by using their collection, systematization, selection, and classification skills to serve the Nazis, they became part of the Nazi bureaucracy. Not only did they facilitate the organized destruction of books, they also helped "remove" Judaism from German intellectual life and eliminate Jewish writers, editors, and university teachers.
