Abstract: Goldberger, who as a young boy together with his family and 7,000 other Danish Jews in October 1943 was smuggled from Copenhagen to Sweden, recollects events and describes psychological problems and traumas confronted by the Danish Jewish refugees on their way to safety. The problems they faced included uncertainty of the course and success of the rescue, separation of families, the necessity to establish contacts with fishermen and other people who took part in the rescue operation, and physical difficulties. 21 Jews drowned during the rescue; many others were betrayed or intercepted by the Germans.
