Abstract:
Examines points of intersection between Holocaust memory and present-day human rights education. Argues that learning in connection with Auschwitz implies more than just cognitive processing of historical facts; it implies broadening of behavioral patterns to include more humanity. Discusses human rights education as historical sensitivization, and secondary antisemitism as a factor limiting its success. Links secondary antisemitism to the authoritarian personality, as defined by Horkheimer and Adorno. Secondary antisemitism is first and foremost characterized by the rejection of memory of the Shoah and German guilt for it.
