Abstract: Franz Bernheim submitted to the League of Nations a petition against German infringement of minority rights in Upper Silesia, rights guaranteed in the Geneva Treaty of 1922. Germany acceded to the treaty, and antisemitic persecution stopped in Upper Silesia until the treaty expired in 1937. Discusses the origins and fate of the petition between 1933-35, when it was addressed for further explanations to the Minorities Office in Opole and decided by the Mixed Commission for Upper Silesia. Archival documents in Opole and Katowice reveal that the petition gave rise to Jewish actions before the Minorities Office in Opole, which examined 148 Jewish complaints from 1933-37.
