Abstract:
Presents background information on the Jewish community in Saloniki during the 1920s-30s. Pp. 23-31 describe the fate of the Jews during World War II, including the Nazi occupation of April 1941 and the anti-Jewish measures. Deportations began in March 1943, mainly to Auschwitz; of the ca. 48,000 Jews who were deported, ca. 37,000 were killed upon arrival at the camps. 96% of Saloniki Jews perished in the Holocaust.
