Abstract: Discusses the development and recent distortion of Holocaust remembrance in France, using the Jewish children's home in Izieu as an example. The home, established by the OSE in May 1943 and raided by the Gestapo in April 1944 (44 children and 7 adults were arrested and deported to Auschwitz), was declared one of three places of national remembrance by President Mitterrand in 1994. Argues that the Izieu Children's Home Memorial Museum, now active on the premises as a research, educational, and coexistence center on a national and European scale, is being used to promote Judeophobic and anti-Zionist views. The institute cultivates a universalist concept of the Shoah and denies any subjective Jewish position. It has developed a dialectic on a model of the Shoah and turned it against the Jews in a caricature-style anti-Zionist discourse. Traces the elimination of the Jewish dimension of the Shoah and the political use of the commemorative mechanism to the development of the history of the Memorial Museum and to Sabine Zlatin, the director of the home during the war and the promoter of its postwar commemoration. Zlatin's false idea that the Jewish community did not participate in the Izieu home's history or its commemoration until the 1980s was adopted by the institution. The assimilated Zlatin, with her weak Jewish identity, was a perfect republican symbol, and the home, as portrayed by her, has been viewed only as promoting the values of the Republic and the resistance.
