Abstract: From 1942 on, and especially after the "Total war" speech by Goebbels in February 1943 in Berlin, the theme of possible "Jewish revenge" on the German people became a recurring issue in Nazi propaganda. Playing on this menace, the Nazis tried to convince the German people that Germany had either to be victorious or to perish by the hands of "world Jewry". This kind of propaganda had an unanticipated effect toward the end of 1943: people came to believe that the Allies' air raids were carried out in retaliation for the Nazi abuse of Jews, and that the Nazis erred in mistreating the Jews and quarreling with such a powerful adversary as the Jews. In 1944 the theme of "Jewish revenge" disappeared from Nazi propaganda.
