Abstract:
Discusses the Holocaust theme in the works of Wander (b. 1917), an Austrian Jewish writer published and known primarily in East Germany, where he lived for 30 years. He is the survivor of a long series of concentration and labor camps and death marches. The striking element in his work is his curiosity and passion for exact observation, which was a lifesaver in the camps. It was missing in German bystanders and is still missing in their descendants; Wander's books can make them open their eyes.
