Abstract:
Examines the complicated process of reconfiguration of memory at the former Buchenwald concentration camp following the reunification of Germany. Before 1990 the two German states assigned two different meanings to the Nazi past: in West Germany memory focused on the commemoration of victims, while in East Germany it focused on a celebration of anti-fascism. After 1990 the Buchenwald memorial was reoriented along the line of commemoration of the victims of genocide.
