Abstract:
This article is part of a work in preparation on "Salamandra, " which will include an edition of the original Yiddish manuscript. The novel was written immediately after World War II, when Ka-Tzetnik was a refugee in Italy. Unlike his later novels, "Salamandra" attempts to describe all aspects of the Holocaust. The essay focuses on differences between the Yiddish manuscript and Hebrew translations published in Israel, contending that the first translation in 1946 is closest to the Yiddish text.
