Abstract:
Examines the question of identity in 300 novels, by ca. 60 French Jewish authors, written between 1945-80. Antisemitism is reflected in the works of writers of both Eastern European and North African descent. Almost all the heroes in the novels feel that they are different and socially excluded. Based on Ervin Goffman's theories on the social use of handicaps, analyzes ways in which the writers deal with the stigma of being Jewish.
