Abstract:
Describes the activities of Wirth as supervisor of the extermination of the Jews in the Treblinka and Sobibór camps. His office's function was kept secret and was responsible directly to Hitler's chancellery in Berlin. Wirth came to Treblinka in October 1942, charged with reorganization of the camp. The ruthlessly efficient methods he employed are described, as well as the construction of a new and larger gassing facility. He did the same in Sobibór. From the end of 1942, Wirth was responsible for the expansion of the German Equipment Works - Jewish labor camps in the Lublin district.
