Abstract:
Both authors experienced the dramatic extremes of the German-Jewish symbiosis - Heym as a German Jew, and Rezzori as a German from Bukovina - and both explored in a literary way the failure of this symbiosis and the theme of antisemitism. Examines the five stories included in the "Memoirs of an Anti-Semite", each story narrated by a different antisemitic character, with a stereotypical image of the Jews. By way of the myth of the Wandering Jew, Heym's novel reveals the religious dimensions of German antisemitism (especially Luther's heritage), and the role of troubled sexuality in the psyche of the Jew-hater.
