Abstract:
Traces the revival of antisemitism in Russia since Perestroika. Gorbachev and Yeltsin abandoned the antisemitic policies of their predecessors, but without acknowledging that these existed and without expressly condemning antisemitism or intervening against antisemitic agitation, in spite of warnings voiced at parliamentary hearings in November 1992. Anti-democratic organizations and parties on both the extreme right and extreme left made antisemitism a central plank in their platforms; their press organs spread allegations of the Jewish conspiracy and even the blood libel. Lists and characterizes these organizations. Notes that antisemitic slogans also appeared in the 1993 putsch attempt.
