Abstract:
Analyzes Jewish themes in the poetry and novels of Grynberg, a Polish Jewish writer (born in 1936) who emigrated to the USA in 1968. Grynberg explores the world of the Holocaust, obsessed by the condition of the Jewish survivor. The Holocaust is seen as the abandonment of humanity, a proof of the absence of God during the Shoah, or God's betrayal of His chosen people. Mentions Grynberg's concern with the complexity of Polish-Jewish relations and the role of Christianity in the perpetuation of antisemitism.
