Abstract: A lecture delivered at Selly Oak, June 1984. Contends that Jewish-Christian dialogue requires a worldview that is rooted in humanism and enlightenment traditions. Discusses the nature of dialogue and states that some of the reasons for its development in recent years is the theological challenge to Christianity posed by the Holocaust and the foundation of the State of Israel. Notes reactions in post-Holocaust theology and Church statements, e.g. the "Nostra Aetate" declaration of 1965.
