Kurzfassung:
Describes and analyzes publications by Max Horkheimer (1895-1973) dealing with antisemitism, published between 1939-1975. Horkheimer discussed sociological reasons for antisemitism - the transition from a liberal capitalist society to fascism (e.g. Germany), the influence of mass movements (e.g. the Crusades) - as well as the role of Jews in society and the social background of the psychoanalytical approach in regard to antisemitism. He stressed the need to educate youth toward pluralism and democracy. Horkheimer believed that a balanced, well-educated person will not hold prejudices, and emphasized the negative influence of centralization of society on the autonomy of the individual.
