Abstract:
Traces the rise of antisemitism in Russia at the end of the 19th century. Describes Lenin's policy towards the Jews; he condemned antisemitism but saw assimilation as the solution for the "Jewish problem". Stalin continued his policy, but later adopted antisemitism. Mentions Stalin's plan for the deportation of Jews to concentration camps on the pretext of "protecting them against antisemitism". Surveys developments since Stalin's death, concluding that despite Gorbachev's "liberal" regime nothing has changed for the Jews.
