Abstract:
In kritischer Abstoßung von der bürgerlichen Individualitätskultur hat sich Alfred Döblin als Revolutionär der Darstellung von Menschenmassen, als Medienarbeiter und als Großstadtepiker profiliert. Alfred Döblin. Massen, Medien, Metropolen behandelt die Kreuzungspunkte dieser drei Arbeitsperspektiven des deutsch-jüdischen Autors. Das Buch geht besonders auf die Texte für Theater, Film und Radio ein und setzt sie in Verbindung mit Fragen der Urbanität, der Propaganda und der proletarischen Existenz. Von den Berlin-Texten ausgehend kommen weitere kosmopolitische Städtebilder des Exilanten und des Liebhabers von Reisebüchern in den Blick. Neu in die Döblin-Forschung eingeführt werden die Begriffe der reflexiven Trivialität, des Artist‘s Artist und des proletarischen Kosmopolitismus.
