Abstract:
Argues that Nietzsche participated in the political debate of the 1880s by attacking the antisemitism of Renan, Stöcker, and Dühring. Nietzsche's atheism represented a total rejection of German antisemitism. Focusing especially on his "Genealogy of Morals" and "Anti-Christ", contends that Nietzsche - following a genealogical strategy - exposes a close family relationship between antisemitism, Christianity, and priestly Judaism. He finds their linkage in the phenomenon of ressentiment - or, put differently, in a common moral frame of reference. Nietzsche's atheism is an attempt to move beyond this frame of reference.
