Kurzfassung:
Notes that Zionism was not popular amongst Hungarian Jewry in the first decade of the 20th century. During World War I the movement became stronger, attempting to solve the problems of mounting antisemitism and to end the prejudice against Jewish soldiers who were accused of being deserters. Despite the sufferings of Jews during the proletarian revolution of 1919, they were slandered as initiators of a communist revolution and persecuted. The period of counter-revolutionary purges affected the Hungarian Zionist Movement; until 1927, it could carry on activities only as a "commercial society".
