Dieser Ausruf einer israelischen Choreographin ist typisch für die tiefe Verwurzelung von Volkstanz und modernem Tanz in der israelischen Gesellschaft. "Wir räumten immer alle Stühle aus dem Esssaal, und dann hat der ganze Kibbuz Volkstänze getanzt. Die Schritte haben alle gekannt, ich kann mich nicht einmal erinnern, sie gelernt zu haben." Mittlerweile ist der Tanz made in Israel auch über seine Grenzen hinaus ein Erfolg. Weltweit erfreuen sich die Tanzgruppen und Choreographen großer Beliebtheit. "Let's Dance!" zeigt mit eindrucksvollen Archivbildern von der Gründung des ersten Kibbuz bis zur heutigen Zeit, mit spektakulär gefilmten Tanzszenen und mit lebhaften Interviews, wie sehr die Entwicklung des Tanzes in Israel mit der gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung dort verbunden ist. Von Gertrud Kraus über Martha Graham, die Batsheva Dance Company bis zu Yasmeen Godder, Rami Be'er und Ohad Naharin werden die wichtigsten Impulsgeber des Tanzes vorgestellt. Der Tanz selbst tritt dabei in einen wortlosen Dialog mit den aufwühlendsten Problemen der israelischen Gesellschaft, mit der Religion, der Sexualität, der Heimatfrage bis zum Militär, den militaristischen Tendenzen und dem Leben in einem multikulturellen Umfeld. Durch die enge Verbindung mit dem täglichen Leben und den lebendigen Traditionen ist Tanz in Israel nie nur abstrakte Kunst. Er wurde zu einem Spiegel der Gesellschaft und damit zu einer der größten kulturellen Errungenschaften Israels.
