Abstract: These drawings force us to re-examine the question of spiritual courage, man's struggle to preserve his humanity; in our context, Placek makes us look at life in the Terezin ghetto in the shadow of death, a life that ended - for most of the people that he drew - in the death camps. It should be pereceived as an arresting artistic document as well as a topical historical record.
