Abstract: Examines the portrayal of the Jew in a Finnish comic magazine edited under the pseudonym Veli Giovanni (Brother Giovanni) between 1919-50. The stereotypical and negative image of the Jew hardly changed from the first issue to the last. Caricatures of Jews appeared in almost every issue. Their vile physiognomy matched their character - they were portrayed as greedy, non-patriotic internationalists only interested in money, speaking Finnish with a strange accent. The Jew was portrayed as the total opposite of the real Finn and alien to Finnish society. Contends that the magazine was not without influence, although it claimed to be merely for entertainment, with no political agenda.
