Abstract: Jewish Experiences in Unifying Europe, Julius H. Schoeps, Olaf Glöckner, Anja Kreienbrink, Europe is in the midst of a rapid political and economic unification. What does this mean for the Jewish minority - numbering less than 2 million people and still suffering from the aftermath of the Shoah? Will the Jewish communities participate in Europe's bold venture without risking total assimilation? Are they vibrant enough to form a new Jewish center alongside Israel and the American Jewish community, or are they hopelessly divided and on a ""Road to Nowhere""? Different perspectives are predicted

Abstract: An interim report on a research project carried out by the Moses Mendelssohn-Zentrum für europäisch-jüdische Geschichte at the University of Potsdam and the Steinheim Institut (Duisburg), with the aid of the Jewish Research Center in Moscow and the St. Petersburg Jewish University. Summarizes surveys made in the Confederation of Independent States, giving differing estimates of the frequency and social distribution of antisemitism. Jews cite antisemitism as their main reason for wishing to emigrate; 53.3% of Jewish immigrants in Germany reported "very frequent" or "frequent" personal encounters with antisemitism in their home country. Discusses the problematic aspect of immigration to Germany after the Holocaust; 85.2% of the interviewees had suffered losses in their own families and 77.1% attached considerable importance to this fact. 89.6% saw a threat in the rise of the radical right and of antisemitism in Germany. 31.3% reported experiences with antisemitism in Germany, but most of them were satisfied enough to recommend immigration to friends at home.
