Abstract:
Family history reaching back to the 17th century. One of Eltzbacher's ancestors, Jakob Loew Eltzbacher, became the banker of Count Kaunitz. Jakob Loew Eltzbacher was also among the Jewish deputies which King Jerome of Westphalia convened at Cassel in 1808. The ancestors of Eltzbacher's mother, the Hertz family, were court Jews in Hildesheim. The physician Gustav Hertz is a descendant of this family. Other parts of the family imclude the Oppenheimers (court Jews in Heidelberg and Vienna), the Hameln, Gans, Geldern and Heine families. Paul Eltzbacher's father was a physician in Cologne.
