    Abstract: This book explores the fraught aftermath of the German Jewish conversionary experience through the story of one family as it grapples with the meaning of its Jewish origins in a post-Holocaust, post-conversionary milieu. Utilizing archival family texts and multiple interviews spanning three generations, beginning with the author’s German Jewish parents, 1940s refugees, and engaging the insights of contemporary scholars, the book traces the impact of a contested Jewish identity on the deconstruction and reconstruction of the Jewish self. The Holocaust as post-memory and the impact of the German Jewish culture personified by the author’s parents leads to a retrieval of a lost Jewish identity, postmodern in its implications, reinforcing the concept of Judaism as ultimately a family affair. Focusing on the personal to illuminate a complex historical phenomenon, this book proposes a new cultural history that challenges conventional boundaries of what is Jewish and what is not

    Abstract: Ausgehend vom Gedenken an die Pogromnacht von 1938 untersucht der Band die Bedeutungswandlungen der Erinnerung an die Shoa und an die Geschichte jüdischen Lebens in Deutschland sowie die aktuellen Entwicklungen der erinnerungspolitischen Debatte, der Erinnerungsforschung und der Gedenkkultur. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Frage nach den zukünftigen Formen und Inhalten des Erinnerns und seiner institutionellen Manifestationen in politischen Diskursen, in der Wissenschaft und in den Gedenkorten.     Abstract: Complicated Complicity is about the forms taken, motives and spectrum of actions of European collaboration with the Nazis. State authorities, local military organizations and individual players in different countries and areas including France, Scandinavia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Greece, Italy, Portugal and the countries of the former Yugoslavia are discussed in the context of the history of World War II, the history of occupation and everyday life and as an essential influencing factor in the Holocaust. New forms of right-wing populism, nationalism and growing intolerance of Jewish fellow citizens and minorities have made such historically sensitive studies considerably more difficult in many countries today. In this time of increasing historical revisionism in Europe, such elucidating discourse is particularly relevant

    Abstract: Im Frühjahr 1943 hatte die Gestapo die meisten der verbliebenen Juden aus dem Deutschen Reich deportiert und löste die letzten jüdischen Gemeinden auf. Neben einer größeren Zahl von in "Mischehe" lebenden Juden und ihren Kindern blieben einige tausend Untergetauchte zurück. Auf Befehl Hitlers kamen seit April 1944 zudem jüdische Zwangsarbeiter ins Reich, die in der Rüstungsproduktion eingesetzt wurden. Der Band dokumentiert ihr Schicksal genauso wie die Entwicklung der in Berlin koordinierten Politik der Judenverfolgung in Europa, die internationalen Reaktionen auf das Bekanntwerden der Verbrechen und die Haltung der deutschen Bevölkerung zum Massenmord an den Juden. Im Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren gab es in den beiden letzten Kriegsjahren nur noch wenige Juden außerhalb des Gettos Theresienstadt. Der Band schildert die antijüdische Politik der deutschen Behörden im Protektorat bis Mai 1945 und die Situation im Getto, das als Durchgangslager nach Auschwitz diente, von den Nationalsozialisten aber auch als Vorzeigegetto genutzt wurde, um die internationale Öffentlichkeit zu täuschen

    Abstract: This source edition on the persecution and murder of the European Jews by Nazi Germany presents in a total of 16 volumes a thematically comprehensive selection of documents on the Holocaust. The work illustrates the contemporary contexts, the dynamics, and the intermediate stages of the political and social processes that led to this unprecedented mass crime. It can be used as an academic aid or be read as a written monument to the murdered Jews of Europe: by teachers, researchers, students, and all other interested parties. The edition comprises authentic testimony by persecutors, victims, and onlookers. These testimonies are furnished with academic annotations and the vast majority of them are published here for the first time in English. Volume 2 documents the persecution of the Jews in the German Reich between January 1938 and the end of August 1939. In the months between the Anschluss of Austria and the beginning of the Second World War, the Nazi leadership imposed a state of siege on the Jews in the form of ‘Aryanization’, organized expulsion, and the pogroms of November 1938

Die Dokumentensammlung bietet einen umfassenden Überblick über die rechtlichen Vorgaben deutscher Turn- und Sportvereine und ihrer Verbände bezüglich der Diskriminierung und Ausgrenzung der jüdischen Sportlerinnen und Sportler in den 1930er und 1940er Jahren.
