Abstract: The book "The Truth of Scientific Medicine" tries to cope with one of the central problems of modern medicine: the quick pace in which the truths in the base of medicine practice are changed. Unstable truths are the reason for doubts and fears among many who practice medicine. Furthermore, they are one of the main reasons for the credibility crisis between doctor and patient

Abstract: This volume, now laid in front of the reader, completes a project started by the late professor Moshe Geshen-Gotstein over fifty years ago: The publishing of a scientific edition of the translation of the Bible into Palestinian-Syriac, based upon a renewed reading of its relics. Professor Goshen wished to produce an edition which will be able to serve both the scholars researching the Greek tradition - the translation to Palestinian-Syriac was made according to the Septuaginta - as well as the scholars of the various Assyrian dialects. The first part of the edition was initially published in 1973. The material for the second part was processed many years ago by Professor Goshen and his assistant, the late Hanan Shiron, yet owing to different circumstances was never published. The developments which occurred on the subject since then, have made it necessary to alter the original writings of Professor Goshen. After consulting with Professor Moshe Bar-Asher it was decided to publish the volume at its present form

Abstract: Coping with Crisis focuses on the theme of conflict management and resolution in its many facets: on the level of individuals, families, groups, cities, and countries, in the spheres of environment, economics, law, and politics, and through its representation in literature and the arts. The essays in this three-part volume, grouped into the rubrics of Humanities, Law, and Social Sciences, describe varied modes of response to conflict, presenting both theoretical discussions and many instructive examples of how potentially volatile situations may be avoided or defused. Abstract: The twenty-five new studies in this volume present the reader with an up-to-date picture of some of the issues and the methodologies that engage scholars of the Ancient Near East. These essays reflect the broad span of the field, both geographically and chronologically, from Sumerian texts of the third millennium BCE, to the town of Nuzi in Iraqi Kurdistan in the mid-second millennium, from there to inquiries into Assyrian and Babylonian documents and inscriptions, as well as into recently recovered Aramaic ostraca from Idumea in southern Israel dating to the fourth century BCE. Rounding off this varied and rich collection are several investigations concerning Ancient Israel and biblical matters. Specialists from Israel, Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan have joined together in this volume to honor Israel Eph'al, professor emeritus of Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, whose many scholarly achievements are hereby noted

Abstract: How did cooperative social groups evolve? This is one of the major questions that concern evolutionary biologists ever since Darwin. One of the first explanations was selection at the level of the group: groups with cooperating individuals increase their reproduction and survival as a whole. Alternative explanations exist, such as selection at the level of the individual: a former beneficiary later rewords a cooperating organism or the seemingly altruist increases its social status thus increases its chances of finding a mate. Another explanation involves selection at the level of the gene: although an individual helping its relatives reduces its direct fitness, measured by its expected number of viable offspring, it enhances the frequency of genes identical to its own in the population. Each one of these models claims centrality or even exclusivity - theoretical primacy - in answering the question of the evolution of altruism. The book is an original and interdisciplinary contribution to the study of the evolution of cooperation. It facilitates a renewed discussion, from a fresh point of view, of classical problems in the fields of evolutionary biology and philosophy of biology; and raises fascinating questions about the history and sociology of science and the complex ties between science and values. From the Introduction by Prof. Yemima Ben Menahem and Prof. Eva JablonkaShavit's book discusses the different explanations to the evolution of altruism and how evolutionary researchers commonly decide between them. The author elucidates the nature of the problems and predicaments in this field, tries to identify their sources, and by using these insights offer new ways of thought that will avoid such pit falls in the future. The disposition to undermine observations and experiments of the local population while seeking the cause for universal altruism, and use of a narrow concept of 'group', biases researchers toward a semantic dispute, which completely denies group selection or spots this process everywhere. According to the author the roots of this practice lie, at least partly, in the socio-political echoes of the concept of 'group selection' since World War II. The author explicates an implicit and multifaceted dialog between science and values and argues for a plurality of selection processes in the evolution of altruism. This book is intended for anyone interested in the nature behind the well-known about the human nature

Abstract: Studi e Ricerche Sulla Storia, la Cultura e la Letteratura Degli Ebrei d'Italia ITALIA Periodical for research in the history, culture, and literature of the Jews of Italy. Whoever is dealing with Jewish thought and humanities knows well how important and influential the Italian Jews were and are in these wide ranges of fields. The large creation and thought of the Italian Jews was passed on for multi generations in Hebrew and Italian while keeping a firm methodical tradition which ITALIA periodical is following and keeping the importance of studying and researching the language, literature, culture and history of Italy and Italian Jews. Italian Jews had a strong presence in the European culture from the 13th century on to our current time. Documents, manuscripts and many books show us many remarkable authors and thinkers, Italian Jews and others, that had strong ties with the rather small ethnicity of Italian Jews. Even though there are many respected studies on the contributions of Italian Jews to the cultural making of the Italian nation, there is still a necessary need for a centralized publication of these past and new studies. ITALIA is an important focus point for an academic discussion on the culture, literature, history and language of Italian Jews as well as a place where we can weight the conclusions of these studies and place goals for future doing in these exciting full of aspects fields

Abstract: The Jewish National and University Library came into being in the years of the British mandate. Its mission was to collect preserve and centralize the spiritual treasures of the Jewish people. Eventually, it would contribute to the fulfillment of the Zionist objective of nation building. The Tel Aviv municipality brought the literary remains of national poets and writers like Bialik and Ahad Ha-Am into its library system. Their collections were developed into public municipal libraries. The Histadrut established a central library and supplied the settlement movement with library services. In that way it contributed to the realization of political, social and ideological aspirations of establishing a socialist society. Simultaneously, with these efforts to collect centralize and preserve the Jewish spiritual heritage in Palestine, the evil Nazi regime became active in destroying Jewish culture by book burning, cleansing German libraries of Jewish books and scattering Jewish libraries and collections in ghettos and concentration camps. Nevertheless and paradoxically, the Nazis have secured and preserved some of the more valuable Jewish library collections for future research in order to be able, post factum to legitimize the destruction of the Jewish people and its spiritual heritage. The two sections of the book document and describe conflicting processes: building and destruction, collecting and dispersion, securing and destroying, plunder and restitution of private and public Jewish book collections and libraries. In the first part, "Libraries and book collections during the British mandate in Palestine" the creation and shaping of a national library and public libraries are described. In the second part "Burning scrolls and flying letters" the negative processes of confiscation and plundering of Jewish libraries throughout Europe are delineated. The salvaging activities of libraries and books by Hebrew University emissaries after the Holocaust and the transfer of the remnants to Jerusalem are discussed. In the last section of the book, the reader may find some historical documents that lend support to the two sections of the book and have never been published so far

Abstract: This book represents a first attempt to examine in a systematic manner televised humor in Israel. It focuses on the Israeli “comic canon” - a bunch of sketches, characters and programs that were produced between the early 1970's and late 1990's. In the course of the years, these texts have accuiraed a unique status and became part of the cultural DNA of many Israelies. The analysis investigates the interrelationship between humor and six prominent social cleavages in Israeli society: national, ethnic, class, political, religious and gender. A close reading of the texts shows that “a joke is never just a joke” - the social, political and economic dramatic transformations that Israel has undergone in the last three decades are capsulated in televised humor. Moreover, humor has served as a sensitive seismograph, capturing processes in early formative stages and sometimes even functioned as an actor in socio-political transformations. The book uncovers the polysemic, or multi-meaning, qualities of popular televised humor, which make it unifying and dividing, conservative and subversive. These qualities enable the “comic canon” to contain the set of paradoxes underlying the Israeli society without resolving them. This polysemity also allows the comic texts to serve as a “cultural core” - shared by different, opposing groups, each of which interprets the texts according to its own needs and perspective

Abstract: Johannes Climacus, thirty years old, born and bred in Copenhagen, aspires to eternal happiness. Becoming a Christian, he says, is a prerequisite for this happiness. Climacus is a pseudonym for Søren Kierkegaard, the renowned nineteenth century Danish philosopher considered to be the father of existential philosophy. In two books: Philosophical Fragments and Concluding Unscientific Postscript to Philosophical Fragments, Kierkegaard portrays Climacus's religious development in his search for his own way to faith, as if he were climbing a psychological/epistemological ladder to reach the climax of spiritual existence. This spiritual development culminates in the believer's dialogue with the absolute-God. In Human Dialogue with the Absolute, the author describes Climacus's philosophical journey to absolute faith. She focuses on the religious stage of Kierkegaard's philosophy, in particular the climax of religious existence, in which the believer attains 'an absolute relation to the absolute'. The believer aspires to remove his doubts and establish a serious, absolute approach within his existence, toward the absolute-God. The philosophical and existential questions that constitute the central theme of this book are how a believer can acknowledge his progress; and how will he know that he has conquered spiritual climax, attained absolute faith. These questions are meaningful even today to the spiritual person

Abstract: The Temple Mount is the most sacred site in Judaism and the third most sacred site of Islam in, after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. The sacred nature of the site has made it one of the main foci of tension and friction in the context of the Israeli-Arab conflict. Jewish fundamentalism and the Temple Mount is original and pioneering research on a number of radical and messianic movements in Israel that wish to, and at times, are making preparations to rebuild the Temple. The manuscript examines the theological roots and historical circumstances that have given rise to the movement of Temple Builders. It places the different movements within larger political, social and religious developments, offering the readers a context to understand the place of such groups within the larger Israeli, and global realities of our time. The research is described in the context of the fundamentalist phenomenon - a wave whose ramifications go far beyond the context of the Middle East. The research gives special attention to the connection between Jewish Temple Builders and Christian fundamentalist supporters and presents the theological exchanges that have taken place. The Book points to the Six Day War as a watershed event that has given rise to messianic interpretations of the Israeli victory and its significance for Jewish history. Israel's' overtaking of Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount, resurrected and enhanced messianic convictions of Zionist Orthodoxy. However, the crystallizing during the 1980s-2000s of contemporary Messianic groups and their Temple oriented Messianic beliefs has driven not the euphoria of victory, but form the fear of disappointment. Those aspiring to build the Temple are afraid of an imminent loss of the territorial gains of made in the Six Day War, due to the peace process, and the theological implications of such setback to their messianic hopes

Abstract: The anonymous prophet called Second Isaiah prophesied in the mid-sixth century BCE, toward the end of the Babylonian exile and the early return of the nation to Israel some 150 years after the prophecies of Isaiah ben Amoz (First Isaiah). Abraham ibn Ezra was the first to note that certain prophecies in chapters 40-66 should be attributed to a later prophet, and this insight was subsequently confirmed by modern scholarship on the basis of historical and linguistic criteria. Second Isaiah's earlier prophecies, delivered in Babylonia, are distinguished by a series of distinctive traits: emphatic affirmation of the uniqueness and incomparability of the God of Israel; universalism; sharp polemics against idols and their craftsmen; the announcement of the appearance of Cyrus, who executed the conquest of Babylonia and the liberation of the nation so they could return to Israel and rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple; the wanderings on their return through the desert; the “eternal covenant,” once promised to David, was now extended to all of Israel; and the four “servant” songs. Second Isaiah's latter prophecies, delivered in Jerusalem, describe the ideal future glory and centrality of Judaism while also referring to the practice of foreign cults and the schism within the nation between those faithful to the God of Israel and those who have forsaken Him. This two-volume Hebrew commentary of Second Isaiah (chapters 40-48 and 49-66, respectively), written by Professor Emeritus Shalom Paul, former Chair of the Bible Department of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, examines the above-mentioned topics through a close reading of the text, offering an in-depth exegesis of the historical, linguistic, literary, ideological, and theological aspects of the prophet's writings. The intertextual influences drawn from earlier Biblical and extra-Biblical literature, primarily Akkadian and Ugaritic, shed light on many of the themes, verses, and words in the prophecies and render this work fascinating and unique. Paul's verse-by-verse commentary and synthesis make ample use of modern critical scholarship and also draws on the rich legacy of the medieval Jewish commentators. This comprehensive work is invaluable for students, scholars, and lay readers interested in broadening their understanding of Second Isaiah's message during these momentous episodes in the nation's history

Abstract: This collection deals with syntactic and semantic phenomena of the Hebrew language within the framework of theoretical linguistics. Most articles are within Noam Chomsky's framework of Generative Grammar and theories within formal semantics. The contributions are written by linguists specializing in theoretical linguistics and familiar with the Hebrew language and its uniqueness among the world's languages. The introductory chapter outlines in general terms the state of the art concerning the study of Hebrew in Israel, and highlights the significance of the theoretical approach in enriching the discourse on Hebrew linguistics as well as enabling easier access to theoretical studies. The introductory chapter is followed by two chapters describing and explaining the theoretical approach, illustrating the explanations from Hebrew. The next eleven chapters were chosen to deal with specific phenomena that are crucial in understanding the structure of Hebrew, on the one hand, and shedding light on the contribution of Hebrew to the general theory on the other hand: the verbal system, notably the binyanim; the marker et; and some issues concerning the tense system; the noun system; pronouns; adverbs; and prepositions. The last two chapters of the volume are each dedicated to a subfield of linguistics: language acquisition and neurolinguistics, respectively. One discusses two phenomena concerning Hebrew acquisition, and the other discusses the syntactic impairment in agrammatic aphasia phenomenon in Hebrew speakers. It is the only collection of its kind aimed at opening a channel of interaction between Hebraists interested in expanding the discourse on Hebrew and theoretical linguists interested in Hebrew

Abstract: What drives certain Bedouin women to fight for their right to higher education? Are they a rising power in their communities? What price are they forced to pay? These questions and others are discussed in Excluded and Loved, which delves into the world of the Bedouin women who have chosen to attain higher education in Israel. The book touches upon their private and community lives, telling the story of their pain and strength. It depicts a broad picture of the relationships between men and women in the southern-Israeli Bedouin communities, unraveling the changes that occurred over the last decade. The stories of the interviewed women are interwoven in the personal story of the researcher, one of the first women in her tribe to seek higher education

Abstract: The book breaks with Nietzsche's previous essay style (as in The Birth of Tragedy). It is a collection of aphorisms, largely concerned with human psychology. He criticizes social Darwinism in it: Wherever progress is to ensue, deviating natures are of greatest importance. Every progress of the whole must be preceded by a partial weakening. The strongest natures retain the type, the weaker ones help to advance it. Something similar also happens in the individual. There is rarely a degeneration, a truncation, or even a vice or any physical or moral loss without an advantage somewhere else. In a warlike and restless clan, for example, the sicklier man may have occasion to be alone, and may therefore become quieter and wiser; the one-eyed man will have one eye the stronger; the blind man will see deeper inwardly, and certainly hear better. To this extent, the famous theory of the survival of the fittest does not seem to me to be the only viewpoint from which to explain the progress of strengthening of a man or of a race.§224 Nietzsche also distinguishes in this work the obscurantism of the metaphysicians and theologians from the more subtle obscurantism of Kant's critical philosophy and modern philosophical skepticism, claiming that obscurantism is that which obscures existence rather than obscures ideas alone: "The essential element in the black art of obscurantism is not that it wants to darken individual understanding but that it wants to blacken our picture of the world, and darken our idea of existence" (Vol. II, Part 1, 27)

Abstract: This book examines the place of the Temple and its rituals in early Rabbinic (Tannaitic) discourse, through a specific case study: the reconstruction of the ritual of the suspected adulteress (Num 5:11-32) in Mishna Sotah. Numbers chapter five describes a ritual performed to test suspicions raised by a husband regarding his wife's sexual fidelity. The jealous husband is required to bring his wife to the priest in the Temple, where she is subjected to an ordeal of a character unparalleled in Biblical law. The Mishnaic ritual differs significantly from the Biblical one, both in detail and overall character. The private priestly ritual becomes, in the Mishna, a grand public event (in which the Mishna invites “whoever wants to stare at her” to come and stare) directed by the Rabbis themselves. A new demand for objective evidence, to comply with standard Talmudic rules of evidence, is introduced. A number of procedures have been added at the beginning and during the course of the ritual. Even the conclusion of the ritual, the actual result of the test, has been radically altered. Why were these measures added to the Sotah ritual? Where were they taken from? How do they function in the context of Mishna Sotah as a whole? How do they relate to the Biblical ritual, on the one hand, and to the reality of the temple on the other? And, finally, what led the Rabbis to reinvent a ritual already described at length in the Bible? Through specific textual engagement with these questions the book suggests a new look at the Tannaitic discourse and the place of the temple in it

Abstract: The book Selected Issues in Business Ethics and Social Responsibility deals with a subject that is at the forefront of our economic and social agenda and presents the ethical credo of the author. It is unique in the sense that it comprises theoretical chapters, case studies that are based on the large business experience and the academic research of the author, and the analysis of masterpieces on business ethics. The parts of the book focus on the ethical facets of leadership, integrity, whistleblowers, corporate governance, stock market, banking, government and business, corruption and bribes, wrongdoing of stakeholders, trust, transparency, decency, sustainability, social responsibility, activism, environment, globalization, international aspects and business ethics in Israel. The author maintains in his book that it is possible to succeed in business while keeping rigorous ethical standards in the complex business environment of today

Abstract: The book takes us on a journey to explore various elements of the Israeli School System. We acquaint ourselves simultaneously with a growing educational structure, and with Israeli society and culture. The Israeli School System was created during the first stages of Israeli history, and was in turn an important factor in the creation of Israeli society. Throughout its existence, either intentionally or not, the Israeli School System has had a profound influence on the formation of Israeli culture, to the effect that national culture and the National School System reflect each other, underscoring their mutual difficulties and struggles. Thus, familiarizing oneself with the Israeli School System entails a familiarization with Israeli society in its entirety, its various concerns, history, and future expectations. This book presents the various traits of the Israeli School System, its challenges and achievement. The approach taken in this work is that knowledge and familiarization are necessary tools for understanding, empathy, criticism and improvement. The author's aim is to provide an overview of the Israeli System of Education, underscoring its various currents and agenda, the different populations that it serves, the range of age groups that it enrolls, the variety of different institutions that it oversees, and the diverse challenges that it faces. This book does not provide a thorough study of each of the above topics, but rather a general historical overview to the entire Israeli School System, inviting the readers to continue this journey on their own path, to investigate and to conduct further research

Abstract: On the morning of June 7th 415 BC the people of Athens woke to find that the statues of the Idol Hermes, which stood in front of private houses and temples where vandalised. Every citizen could see his divine guardian standing at his doorstep damaged and desecrated, and gradually they found that they not alone, the whole city have lost its divine guardian. Trepidation was great. The Athenians wanted to discover the identity of the vandalisers and announced that they will give rewards and immunity to the informers who would provide some information about the blasphemy. The information received included more than information about the damaging of statues, it included information about desecration of Oration ceremonies held in private houses. The scandal was immense, the biggest one in Athenian history. Arrests were made, prosecutions, executions and flights to exile. Andocides, who was one of the accused, lists, in the defence speech he gave, the speech about the Orations, the chain of events and tries, of-course, to prove his innocence. The speech gives important information on the scandal and is an key source for learning about state events at the end of the 5th century BC

Abstract: Judah Halevi is the most prominent Hebrew poet of the Middle Ages. This book tells his life story, from the early publications of his poems in Toledo and until his tragic death, which occurred during his heroic journey to the Land of Israel. For the first time, the presentation of Halevi's story is based on his entire oeuvre - his poem collections and dewans - written during different landmarks in the poet's life in the east and west. In addition, this study compares and confronts his autographic letters with letters written by his contemporaries, unraveled upon the historic discovery of the Cairo Geniza

Abstract: Gershom Sholem (1897-1982), was one of the most renowned figures in Modern Jewish Culture of the 20th Century. He is one of the leading researchers of Judaism in general, and of Cabbala, Sevtaota, Mysticism and Jewish Torat haSod especially. Even now, a whole generation posthumously, his fountains of diverse creation have not ceased to flow. His personality and scientific contemplation change form and fill dozens of books and studies. Scholem dealt many times in Hasidism and its world, and the THE LATEST PHASE - called thus after the opening article of the collection - assembles all his papers on the subject for the first time. The range of Hasidism studies by Scholem is wide and diverse: from the Baal Shem Tov's spiritual world and historic figure, through the abolition of messianicism in the Hasidism and ending in his famous controversy with Martin Buber. Thought, History, Bibliography, newly and originally interpreted Historical documents, Piercing criticism of Authors and Books, Innovations and Insights - all these forged new ways of understanding Hasidism, accompany its research and have not lost their essence. All the papers have been reprinted and have had many remarks and annotations added to them, placing the original articles in the unique context in which they were written and enriching them bibliographically. The Editors of the book are Prof. David Assaf from the Department of History of the Jewish People in the Tel Aviv University and Dr. Esther Liebes director of the Gershom Scholem Library in the Jewish National and University Library in Jerusalem

Abstract: Due to political and cultural developments in the region, Middle Eastern women receive a lot of attention lately. Gender analysis which emphasizes historical aspects in differentiating between the sexes has become an inseparable part of the area's genealogy study. The collection 'Women and Gender in the Middle East in The Twentieth Century', which introduces study results in this important area of research, aims to enrich knowledge and erode stereotypes. Written by Israeli researchers, these articles deal with women authors and movie makers, the Islamic dress code controversy, women education and the women movement. The collection also deals with the state's attitude towards women and their attitude towards the state. It touches upon official feminism, when the state wishes to take upon itself the improvement of women's status, and also women's opposition statements about policies implemented upon them

Abstract: What is Philosophy of Halakhah? Can the Halakhah be understood philosophically? Is the Halakhah influenced by factors external to it? This book, New Streams in Philosophy of Halakhah points to new directions of research by outstanding scholars in this field. This book has four sections: delineating the field of inquiry; study of the role and function of philosophy in Halakhic discourse; formalism and realism in Halakhic interpretation; sociological, anthropological and gender orientated readings of the Halakhah. In these sections fundamental issues will be clarified including defining the discourse of philosophy of Halakhah, the diverse elements within Halakhah, and the contribution of the Halakhic philosopher to an understanding and clarification of the Halakhah and its significance. Also treated in this book is the issue, whether the Halakhah is characterized only by factors inherent in it or whether also by valuative and philosophical worlds outside of it. What is the weight of external considerations in the shaping of the Halakhah and its decision makers? Can the tools of Sociology and Anthropology enrich our understanding of the Halakhic process? In examining these questions the authors deal with the Philosophy of the Halakhah through critical but also normative lenses. This book lays before the readers the cutting edge of research in Philosophy of Halakhah, and it gives the reader a fascinating point of entry into philosophical-Halakhic discourse

Abstract: The transition process in central and eastern Europe (CEE) had a profoundeffect on how individuals interact. Economic and social institutions havechanged, requiring an adaptation process by individuals in the move towarda market economy. How each individual accesses, manipulates and usestheir networks will determine the use of their social capital. Within CEE,there is a presumption of low levels of social capital. This paper questionsthe rationale of applying the contested 'western' concept of social capital toCEE countries. It argues that although the concept was developed tounderstand processes within established democratic systems, it neverthelessis instrumental for analysing how trust is formed, and for understandingcooperation amongst individuals. As such, this framework reconcilesliterature from sociological and economic disciplines and offers acomprehensive framework for the analysis of social capital on a micro level. This involves positing social capital within a game theoretic framework, while including social learning or heuristics. This is particularly importantdue to the path dependent social structures and institutions, given politicalchanges in these countries in the last century. Social capital is seen as adynamic entity, a form of institutional change, which leads to innovation inthe existing governance structures. Abstract: The relationship between Jewish agriculture in the USSR, Jewish sponsors in the USA, and the Bolsheviks constitutes a fascinating segment in the history of interwar Jewish cooperation. This book explores the ideological motives of communal farming and everyday life in Jewish communities, mostly in Soviet Russia. It addresses this ideological tradition and its practice from the 19th century and until the establishment of the State of Israel, demonstrating the ways in which Jews accustomed to the Eastern European Shtetlekh soon became efficient farmers. The second part of the book gives and account of communal farming in the Jewish world in the modern era, providing a fresh outlook on the negative approach toward Jewish agriculture, traditionally expressed in history books

Abstract: JUDGES AND LAWYERS IN ERETZ-ISRAEL tells the story of the local Judicial System - Judges, Courts, Lawyers - in the last 18 years of the Ottoman rule (1900-1918) and the first 12 years of the British rule (1918-1930) in Eretz-Israel (Palestine). The book answers, amongst others, the following questions: • Why is the Israeli Judicial System built in its present structure? • Who was the first Jewish lawyer in Eretz-Israel (Palestine)? • Was the Ottoman Judicial System really so infested with corruption? What were the relations between David Ben-Gurion and Moshe Sharett (Shertok) when they were Law students in Constantinople before the First World War? • Who established the new Judicial System in Jerusalem after the British conquest of Eretz-Israel (Palestine) in 1918? • How were “Native” judges - Arabs and Jews - nominated for the first time in Eretz-Israel (Palestine)? • Who was the first President of the Supreme Court of Eretz-Israel (Palestine) and why he was forced to resign? • How did the Judicial System of Eretz-Israel (Palestine) fight for its independence? • Who was the Jewish judge that was dismissed from the Judiciary in 1930? • What is the connection of the Eretz-Israel (Palestine) Judicial System and the love-affair between an elderly millionairess from Philadelphia (U.S.A.) and a dashing farmer-politician from Zichron-Yaakov who was 25 years youngrer than her ? The book is based mainly on primary sources - letters, documents, protocols etc. - discovered by the author in public and private archives in Israel and England
