    Abstract: Richard Neutra (1892–1970) war einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter des International Style und wurde besonders in Amerika mit lichtdurchfluteten Ikonen bekannt. Bereits 1932 waren die im Mai 1924 fertiggestellten Häuser in Berlin-Zehlendorf in der zukunftsweisenden Ausstellung „Modern Architecture“ im Museum of Modern Art in New York neben den „Modern Architects“ wie Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe und Walter Gropius zu sehen. Danach gerieten die Villen nach Neutras ersten großen Erfolgen in Amerika bald in Vergessenheit. Seine kurze Berliner Schaffensperiode von 1920 bis 1923 war geprägt von der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Wiener Freund Ernst L. Freud und der anspruchsvollen Mitarbeit im Büro von Erich Mendelsohn. Zwei Merkmale der Zehlendorfer Häuser, die Drehbühne und das fein abgestimmte Farbkonzept, zeugen bis heute von Neutras innovativer Experimentierfreude.
