Abstract:
Helmut Hirsch (born 1907 in Wuppertal-Barmen) emigrated with his wife to France in 1933; work as a journalist in France; immigration to the USA during World War II; university study in Chicago and new career as history professor at Roosevelt College, Chicago. Hirsch also discusses the American university system and historic political problems, such as the Saar question.
