    Abstract: "In Mo(ve)ments of Resistance, Grinberg summarizes both his own work and that of other political economists, providing a coherent historical narrative covering the time from the beginning of Socialist Zionism (1904) to the Oslo Accords and the neoliberalization of the economy (1994-1996). The theoretical approach of the book combines eventful sociology, path dependency, and institutional political economy. Grinberg argues that historical political events have been shaped not only by political and economic forces but also by resistance struggles of marginal and weaker social groups: organized workers, Palestinians, and Mizrachi Jews. Major turning points in history, like the Separation War in 1948, the military occupation in 1967, and the Oslo peace process in 1993, are explained in the context of previous social and economic resistance struggles that affected the political outcomes

(Jeremy Adler) Während der Band Nach der Befreiung prägnant die wichtigsten Überlegungen seiner klassischen Bücher Theresienstadt 1941–1945. Das Antlitz einer Zwangsgemeinschaft (1955) und Der verwaltete Mensch. Studien zur Deportation der Juden aus Deutschland (1974) vor Augen stellte, eröffnet Orthodoxie des Herzens einen anderen, überraschenden Einblick in Adlers Denkwelten. Die hier versammelten Essays betreffen die Literatur, Religion und Politik des Menschen, ohne ideologisch eingefärbt zu sein. Eine zeitgenössische Prägung besitzen sie dennoch: Gedanken können und müssen sich am Erlebten abschleifen und formen. So verstand sich Adler als 'Autor zwischen Literatur und Politik'. Wenn Politik eine Methode zur Staatslenkung ist, so ist Literatur ein Bedürfnis dazu. Das Ziel ist eine aktive Formung der Gesellschaft: politisch durch Gesetze und Ideologien, welchen der Mensch unterworfen wird, literarisch durch die Darstellung von Ideen, die er annehmen darf. Orthodoxie des Herzens stellt die wichtigsten Essays Adlers über religiöse und philosophische Fragestellungen zusammen: Der erste Teil befasst sich mit Lyrik als Ausdruck der (inneren) Exilerfahrung. Der zweite Teil beleuchtet das Judentum als Religion und kreist um die Ideen von Schuld und Sühne, während sich der dritte Teil schließlich der Verbindung von Politik und Ideologie widmet. Dabei werden nicht nur Politik und Religion auf die Erfüllung von Funktion und Verantwortung hin befragt, sondern auch der Autor, der sich selbst in einer sozialen und ideologischen Zwischenstellung positioniert.

    Abstract: Führer durch den Nahen Osten sowie Israel und die Palästinensergebiete. Einmal den Sommer in einem Kibbuz verbringen, während eines Freiwilligendienstes mit alten Menschen in Haifa in Kontakt kommen, die Stätten der Bibel im Heiligen Land besuchen oder in einem israelisch-arabischen Friedensprojekt mitwirken – das Interesse vieler junger Deutscher an Israel ist weiterhin vorhanden. Was weckt dieses Interesse und wie sehen junge Israelis ihre deutschen Gegenüber?Das Koordinierungszentrum deutsch-Israelischer Jugendaustausch ConAct ist dieser Frage nachgegangen und hat 20 junge Deutsche und Israelis zu einer Schreibwerkstatt nach Berlin eingeladen. Die 50 Kurztexte, die dabei entstanden sind, bilden den Grundstock des Buches „Israel – Nah im Osten“, das von ConAct und der NDV Verlagsanstalt Darmstadt gemeinsam herausgegeben wurde.Es sind viele kleine Erlebnisse und menschliche Begegnungen, die sich im Buch widerspiegeln. Sie verdeutlichen: Wenn junge Deutsche und junge Israelis zusammentreffen ist dies noch immer etwas Besonderes. Blickwinkel verändern sich, wenn man erfährt, dass der Großvater der israelischen Gastfamilie im Konzentrationslager war, und man trotzdem so herzlich aufgenommen wird. Auch auf junge israelische Besucherinnen und Besucher wirkt der Holocaust noch immer nach, wenn sie sich auf Spurensuche durch Berlin begeben, aber sie sehen auch die Vitalität der deutschen Hauptstadt und schätzen sie. Berlin gehört zu den beliebtesten Städtezielen junger Israelis.Israel hat zwar nur die Größe Hessens, aber über kein Land wird überall auf der Welt so leidenschaftlich gestritten, wie über Israel. Judith Seitz und Itay Lotem haben die Texte der Jugendlichen daher mit viel nützlicher Sachinformation hinterlegt.     Abstract: "The essays in this volume seek to confront some of the charged meeting points of European--especially German--and Jewish history. All, in one way or another, explore the entanglements, the intertwined moments of empathy and enmity, belonging and estrangement, creativity and destructiveness that occurred at these junctions. These encounters typically unfolded within an uneasy continuum of conflict and co-operation, conformity and resistance, refashioning or maintaining personal and collective dimensions of identity. Clearly, they never allowed for the luxury of indifference. Yet it would be wrong to present meetings of this kind as exclusively confrontational, as stark either-or choices. Life at the junctions may be vulnerable and insecure but it can also yield fresh angles of perception and new opportunities. If these boundary situations generated a modicum of friction, confusion and anxiety, and at times even murderousness, they also produced new alliances and friendships, creative projects and novel fusions and formations of identity. In exploring these dramatic moments in history, Steven Aschheim provides valuable new insights into the history of Europe, Israel, and global Judaism"--
