Abstract:
Discusses the influence of the 1848 revolution in Europe on the process of the emancipation of Jews. Describes proposals and changes in the juridical situation of the Jews in several countries, among them Prussia and the Austrian Empire (especially Galicia). Pp. 16-22 describe anti-Jewish disturbances during the revolution, and the role of conservative forces which provoked peasants to attack Jews, who were alleged to be the cause of their troubles, in order to prevent changes in the existing social order.
