Abstract:
Traces the historical roots of Jew-hatred to the ancient period, when Jews were considered heretics because they refused to offer sacrifices after the destruction of the Second Temple. While this anti-Judaism was rooted in Greek and Roman culture (where there were many temples to worship in, and multiple gods), the Christians reproached the Jews for their sacrifice of Jesus, and later, from the Middle Ages on, accused Jews of sacrificing Christian children in religious rituals. Discusses, also, other causes of antisemitism in modern times, such as economic competition and racism.
