Kurzfassung:
In light of the "historians' debate, " affirms the necessity of going beyond horror at the Holocaust to an understanding of it in order to prevent its recurrence. Christian theologians ignore Jewish approaches to the Holocaust. Analyzes the traditional anti-Jewish attitudes of Christian theology, found even in a 1948 declaration of the Confessing Church which, along with expression of sorrow for "what happened in the past" and the silence of the Church, repeated the doctrine that the Jews themselves, in crucifying Jesus, rejected their destiny as the chosen people. The Confessing Church combated racist aspects of Nazi antisemitism but held fast to anti-Jewish theology. Concludes that the Church must cultivate an affirmative approach to its Jewish roots.
