Abstract: On Didacus Pyrrhus, a pseudonym of Diogo Pires, a Portuguese-born Jewish poet and humanist, who was a Converso but reverted back to Judaism and to his given name Isaia Koen (b. Évora, Portugal 1517-d. Dubrovnik 1599). He was exiled from Portugal and travelled through England, Belgium, and Italy. Pires then spent a short period of time in Constantinople, and in 1558 he finally settled in Dubrovnik as an already prominent and respected Latin poet.
