Abstract:
Rudnóy was born as Teréz Lőwy in 1908 or 1910 to a Jewish family. She grew up in Léva and later lived in Esztergom. Between 1939-46 she wrote nine short stories and five novels. In 1944, Rudnóy's parents, along with herself, her husband and two young sons, were deported to Auschwitz. Only Teréz and her sister Lilly survived. She wrote the first Hungarian Holocaust novel in 1946, "Szabaduló asszonyok" ("Liberated Women"); it was published posthumously in 1947. Teréz died in 1947 when a boat she was sailing in on the Danube capsized and she drowned.
