Abstract:
Analyzes the concept of "theology of the Holocaust" in the thought of Elie Wiesel, Emil Fackenheim, and Irving Greenberg, according to which the response to the horrible suffering of the Holocaust had to be the appropriation of power and creation of the State of Israel as guarantor of the Jewish people's continuity. Criticizes use of the Holocaust and "fear of extermination" as justifications for "the expropriation and deportation" of Palestinians, contending that the victims of the Nazis are now oppressors of the Arabs. Also criticizes Christian-Jewish dialogue in relation to Israel; in order to atone for their past antisemitism, many Christian interlocutors refrain from questioning Israel's attitude towards the Palestinians.
