Abstract:
The "Reichsherold" was founded by Otto Böckel in 1887 to support his campaign for election to the Reichstag on an antisemitic, pro-peasant platform, and continued to function as his organ until the end of his political career in 1894. Böckel soon passed from publishing general articles on the baneful influence of the Jews, especially on the peasantry, to a "practical antisemitism": guidance on the part of the organization of cooperatives to free peasants from the grasp of Jewish traders and moneylenders. The newspaper also published serial novels that conveyed the same message.
