Abstract:
Analyzes the ambivalent attitudes of Bruno Schulz (1892-1942), the Polish Jewish writer, in the atmosphere of growing antisemitism in interwar Poland. Schulz was torn between the dream of integration into Polish society and the temptation to declare himself part of the Jewish community. Concludes that some of his fantastic tales can be read in the light of the situation of Polish Jews of the time.
