Verlagsinfo: Niemals zuvor ist die jüdische Geschichte in der Zeit der Aufklärung und der Romantik so eindrucksvoll dargestellt worden. Der Leser nimmt teil an immer neuen Versuchen, eine jüdische Identität zu finden und zu rechtfertigen, in Auseinandersetzung mit einer christlich-deutschen Umwelt, die sich meist fordernd und ausschliessend, oft aggressiv, selten verstehend und tolerierend verhielt. Michael A. Meyer, geb. 1937 in Berlin, ist Professor für Jüdische Geschichte am Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati und war internationaler Präsident des Leo Baeck Instituts. Er ist Herausgeber der vierbändigen "Deutsch-jüdischen Geschichte in der Neuzeit" (1996(IBM)1997)
