Abstract:
Although hatred of the "other" is common around the world, the uniqueness of antisemitism lies in the fact that the Jews and Israel are judged by a double standard and they are held responsible for all the evil in the world. In the ancient period Jews were initially viewed as simply ridiculous; they were demonized only after the advent of Christianity. The conception of "purity of blood" during the Spanish Inquisition developed into racist antisemitism in the 19th century. The new Islamic antisemitism, however, is neither religious nor racial, but rather ideological and political. Historically, Jews fared better in Islamic countries than in Christian ones, but demonization began to penetrate Muslim societies in the 19th century and increased during World War II due to Nazi propaganda. Later, after the Arab-Israeli wars, Muslims sought solace in the belief that the Jews were the root of all evil and developed propaganda to popularize this belief.
