Abstract:
"Moses and Monotheism, " Sigmund Freud's last major work, is generally considered to contain errors and omissions. It was widely condemned as an expression of self-hatred, giving encouragement to antisemitism with its thesis that the Jewish religion was founded by an Egyptian, Moses, whose murder by the people was concealed. Argues that the book is deliberately deceptive; analyzed psychoanalytically, it is a damning indictment of antisemitism and Nazism, reflecting Freud's identification with the biblical Moses and Joseph. It was approved by Thomas Mann who used similar enigmatic methods in his books on Joseph.
