    Kurzfassung: Ella Pick’s handwritten diary that describes mainly her son’s upbringing is followed by Rudolph Pick’s English translation of his mother’s diary. Also included is Rudolph Pick’s short typescript about his and his own family’s survival of the Holocaust (in German).
    Kurzfassung: The diary was written between 1920 and 1942. Description of the birth of the author’s son Rudolph on January 3, 1920 and his first childhood illnesses. Milestones and accidents. Summer holidays with the author’s extended family. Visits at her husband’s home in Cetno. Appendicitis operation and recovery stay in Grado, Italy. Rudolph is enrolled at grade school in 1925. Summer in Baden and more illnesses. First sign of the swastika during the summer holidays in Bohemia in 1929. Rudi enters “Realschule”. Subtle Anti-Semitism at school. Anti-Semitic encounter during the summer holidays in Carinthia in 1930. Bar mitzvah celebration in 1933. Rudi joins the Jewish Boy Scouts. Hitch-hike trip to Paris. In 1937 he enrolls at the Vienna Technical University. Anschluss in 1938 and move to Prague. After the German occupation of Prague in March of 1939, Rudolph Pick leaves for Paris.
